Contact your Legislators

Click the image to the left to see who is leaving Congress this year and why

NPR reported that more than 10% of Congress is leaving this year. This includes 17 members of ALS Caucus. Now, more than ever, we need to contact our Legislators and ask them to join the ALS Caucus.

Thanks to I Am ALS, you can use this form to ask your Legislators to join the caucus. It takes less than 90 seconds.

Also, if possible, it’s best if you can build a relationship with your Legislators. But if that’s too much, you can let I Am ALS do this work for you by filling out this form to allow I Am ALS to advocate on your behalf.

Use the Glen Rouse ALS Legislative Viewer to see if your Legislators are members of the caucus. If they’re not, a link to the I Am ALS form will appear in the Viewer’s side panel to ask your Legislators to join the caucus. Use the information in the panel to describe ALS impact by district and state. This will take less than 120 seconds to do.

You can ask your Legislator to meet with you and you don’t have to be an expert! But again, you can instead have I Am ALS talk on your behalf as a constituent. In any case, it’s nice when you first reach out to your Legislator (whether through the I Am ALS form or a different way) that you include some talking points from the Viewer or some from the following list:

  • ALS can strike anyone (ANYONE!) and science does not know why

  • ALS strikes 1 in 300 adults (and also strikes children)

  • ALS is on the rise

  • ALS robs you of your ability to talk, walk, eat, and breathe. The high speed and combo of loss is brutal. About half die within 2 years of diagnosis.

  • Science cannot tell us the cause of ALS or how to treat it

  • ALS has the same prognosis that it had in 1865

  • It’s time to change all of the above!

At the same time we ask you to get involved through the actions we outlined above, we also ask that you stand with us in thanking our 17 members of ALS Caucus for their service supporting ALS research funding and policies supporting the ALS community. Their X handles are here on the home page but of course any way you can thank them throughout your socials or even snail mail or phone calls would be much appreciated!
